Making the Sespe Speaker Stands

The Story
I made the Sespe Speaker Stands at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport, Maine.
They are a pair of custom speaker stands in curly cherry with dovetailed corners, made for Orb Audio satellite speakers.
The dramatic facets were shaped using only hand tools and serve to reduce the visual weight of the sturdy build. I continue to explore facets in pieces such as the Krotona Coffee Table.
The Nordhoff Desk came out of the same summer.

The stands before any hand planing. Note the guide lines.

Test fitting the speaker.

Fitting the dovetails and mortises that hold the speaker mounting bracket.

The brass mounting screw test fitted into the final planed shape.

Midway through planing one of the facets.

Showing off the Waterlox finish. I've since moved on to 100% non-toxic hard wax finishes.

A selection of angles of the finished stands, showing how the faceting reduces the visual weight of the form.
